NYSC’s HIRD takes medical intervention to Barunde Community
The National Youth Service Corps, Gombe State has taken the first quarter Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers to Barunde Community in Gombe State.

Declaring the programme open, the State Coordinator NYSC Gombe, Mrs Ada Imoni, said the programme was an innovation of NYSC Management, targeted at rural areas in order to enhance the accessibility of healthcare Services for free.

She maintained that the Scheme had mobilised highly skilled Corps medical volunteers who would work harmoniously with health personnel of Barunde Primary Health care Centre in the provision of health intervention through diagnosis, treatment, referrals and proper preventive mechanisms.
“I want to place on record that the NYSC is alive to it’s responsibilities and responsive to the needs of the Country, thus, the idea of Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers was conceived and will be sustained to ensure that health intervention reaches the nooks and crannies of Nigeria,through the NYSC medical team,” she said.

In his response, the District Head of Barunde, represented by Alhaji Galadima Ahmadu, appreciated NYSC Management for bringing the programme to Barunde Community, adding that the exercise was the first of its kind in the Community.
He maintained that the people would not forget the kind gesture of the NYSC, calling for its sustenance by the Scheme.
Meanwhile, the Chairman, Primary Health care Centre Barunde, Pharmacist Dahiru Bakari, said the initiative would remain indelible in the history of Barunde Community.
He maintained that the Primary Health Care Centre has for the past four years enjoyed services of Corps members and also donation of drugs from the Medical Aids Community Development Service Group.
Highlights of the occasion include; health talk on personal hygiene, exclusive breast feeding, drug abuse and Vesicovaginal fistula screening among others.
Our correspondent reports that no fewer than 2800 beneficiaries were attended to, in the spirit of the 50th anniversary of the National Youth Service Corps.
