Peace Corps Organises Digital Literacy Training For North-East Officers In Gombe
The Peace Corps of Nigeria on Saturday held a two-day North-East zonal digital literacy workshop and training for its officers and men to enable them gain digital skills necessary to engage in a digital economy and improve livelihoods.


The training held at the Teachers Resource Centre, Kwami Local Government Area, Gombe, with participants drawn from Gombe, Taraba, Yobe, Borno, Bauchi, and Adamawa state commands respectively.
The North-East Zonal Digital Literacy Coordinator, Deputy National Commandant, Chief Patriot Sani Kasimu, while declaring open the two days workshop and training said the digital literacy certificate programme was a prerequisite to ensure service delivery to the nation as directed by the National Commandant, Professor Dickson Akoh, which is in tandem with the policy thrust of government.
Also, the Deputy National Commandant, Logistics and Supply, Patriot Kabiru Abdulhamid, said the world has moved from analog to digital, and as part of the mandate of the corps geared towards addressing digital illiteracy and tackling insecurity in real quick time.
The Gombe State Commandant, Patriot Enoch Ambore, expressed gratitude for the support from the National Commandant that led to the success of the training, vowing to redouble efforts in subsequent programs.
The resource person, Dr Mohamed Kabir Ahmed, from the Department of Computer Science Gombe State University, highlighted the importance of ICT to security agency’s, he stated that the training would help the participants on how to apply the use of ICT tools to address the issues relating to insecurity.
“if other security agencies adopt the use of ICT, it will help in curbing the menace of insecurity to the barest minimum particularly, in the zone,” he said.
Participant from Borno State command Godiya Zaman, said she has gained alot from the training.
The National Commandant, Professor Akoh, in an address to the participants virtually, congratulated them for participating in the fourth phase exercise, which held simultaneously in the six geopolitical zone, he further assured them that the Bill to establish the Nigerian Peace Corps has been transmitted to President Muhammadu Buhari for assent.
