MDCAN expresses hope for improved health education

The Medical and Dental Consultants’ Association of Nigeria, has expressed hope that the health education of Nigeria would soon improve for a better health services.
Dr Victor Makanjuola, the MDCAN National President of the association expressed the hope on Tuesday during the opening ceremony of the association’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Jalingo.
According to him, the NEC meeting of the association will provide resolutions and recommendations that would be handy in engaging the political actors and policy makers on effective strategies for revamping the nation’s healthcare and medical education systems, as it will stem the tide of massive brain drain in the health sector.
He also disclosed that the National Officers’ Committee (NOC) was forging ahead with other relevant organisations to overcome the multitude challenges like, appropriate remuneration for members, perennial brain drain, deteriorating standard of medical education, dearth of infrastructure in the hospitals and generally unsatisfactory conditions of service.
“This meeting will also provide another opportunity for our Association to brainstorm on strategies and policies towards improving the standard of medical education and healthcare delivery. The theme has been carefully chosen to address contemporary issue affecting the Medical Education sector in Nigeria and has been entitled “Providing Quality Healthcare Services in Source Resourced Environment,” The National President expressed.
Earlier, Dr Ahmed Jatau Loh, the MDCAN Chairman Taraba State, while commenting on the theme of the meeting “Providing Quality Healthcare Services in a Scarce Resourced Environment”, lamented that Nigeria was no doubt facing a lot of challenges in terms of economic and human resources for health but believed the resources were available but probably lack judicious utilisation.
He also assured that the MDCAN meeting would proffer solution to the challenges.
