The All Progressives Congress Gombe state chapter on Thursday faulted the appointment of Umar Hashidu, as Managing Director of North-East Development Commission.
President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), had in a letter dated May 3, 2023 to the senate nominated Umar, son to Gombe first democratically elected governor as MD and 11 others as board members.

Speaking while receiving a group of protesters under the aegis of Gombe State APC support groups, the Publicity Secretary of the party Moses Kyari, said the governor Muhammadu Yahaya was not consulted in the appointment of Hashidu, stressing that as party leader in the state he deserved to be involved in who gets what.
According to him, the mistakes of the outgoing President should not be repeated by the incoming administration, decrying the situation where party members were not compensated.

He said, “It is the party that has given the platform under which we gathered here today. Nobody who was elected into any office including the president was elected as an individual. It was the party that was elected.
“Due process was not followed in the appointment of our own Hashidu as the new MD of the North East Development Commission. If the governor who stood firm and won the election and won other seats for the party will not be consulted in such a sensitive appointment, and certain individuals will seat down in Abuja and try to consolidate their cronies, that we will not accept.”
Speaking on behalf of his group, the Convener, Hussaini Bappah said since 2015 those without requisite contributions to the party were appointed, adding “Since 2015 this has been happening in gombe state, the person that has been appointed as a Minister did not work for it, 2019 is not someone that work for the government and he did not even show his support and did not even bring 1 broom, so for now we are calling all the stake holders and the principles concern that we are not going to condone this again.”
Also, Aliyu Yusuf, urged the National leadership of APC to seek Yahaya’s input in making appointments following his knowledge on members’ participation.
“We believe Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has not been carried along in federal appointment being the party leader of the state. He knows all the people that laboured for the party in Gombe, he should be consulted,” he added.
