Resuscitate the glory of food basket of the Nation – Group tells Benue State Gov-elect
Jemgbagh Development Association, Gombe State Chapter, on Sunday tasked the Governor-elect of Benue State, Hyacinth Iormem-Alia, to bring back the past glory of the state as food basket of the Nation.
The association in a press statement made available to journalists signed by the acting Chairman Igbalagh Terzungwe, and the Publicity Relations Officer Orban Ipavvenda, lauded Iormem-Alia’s victory, adding that residents should be patient with the governor while he settles for reconstructing the state.
According to the group, Iormem-Alia should not tow the path of blames but work assidiously in order to change the current narrative of Benue State.
The statement partly read, “As we identify with the Governor-elect of Benue State Revd. Fr Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, on his resounding victory in the just concluded gubernatorial election in the state. We wish to urge the Governor-elect to bring back the past glory of Benue as food basket of the nation.
“The All Progressives Congress’ resounding victory in the recent gubernatorial poll is a sign of general acceptance by the Benue masses as the Messiah of the state. As you prepare to take The mantle of leadership of the state, we encourage you to emancipate the Benue people and bring back the lost glory of the state as the food basket of the nation.
“The Association calls on the Benue State Governor-elect to be ready to take the leadership of the state and not follow the trend of blame-game which is common with politicians of today.
“The group also wishes to appeal to the people of Benue State to be patient with the Governor-elect because there is a lot of work to be done in the State, as Benue masses we should be prayerful to God for the Governor-elect.
“Equally we appeal to politicians in the state to please put their egocentric interests and sentiments aside to work for the betterment of the State. The Governor-elect should share appointments based on competence not who knows who for the betterment of the State. Benue State is for all not for a particular group or class of people.The group is hopeful for the return of the lost glory of the State as the Food basket of the Nation.”
While registering it unalloyed support to the incoming administration, the association urged well meaning Benue people to support Iormem-Alia led government succeed.
“We equally advise the Benue State citizens and politicians appointed or not, Benue is for all of us regardless of political party affiliation, tribal and religious differences.
“We pray the Almighty God gives the Governor-elect the wisdom of King Solomon to address the contending issues that affects the citizens of Benue state at home and in diaspora.
“We want to urge the Benue think tanks both at home and in diaspora to come together and work for the betterment of the State.
“The group equally registered their loyalty to the Governor-elect and promised to pray for the success of his administration,” the statement added.
