Gombe organises induction course for Members-elect
…charges them on good leadership, quality legislation
A two-day induction course was organised for members-elect of the seventh Assembly of the Gombe State House of Assembly to equip them with the rudiments of the legislation.

Declaring open the workshop, the state Deputy Governor, Dr Manassah
Jatau, who represented the Governor charged the members-elect to keep personal interests aside and work as a team in order to move the state forward.

He urged the members to key into the State Government’s commitments of developing the state because the essence of leadership is to make life easier for all people from all works of life.
Jatau emphasised that leadership requires impartial application of the law and they should be careful of their utterances and conducts in the public sphere because respect is created and earned and not by taking.
” Being an active actor and participant in the struggle that lead to your victorious emergence, warranting you being here today, I wish to sincerely commend you all. Remember however, much as you are representing your various constituencies, you are now leaders in Gombe State.
“It is on account of this I am addressing the issue of leaders and leadership. Leadership is so important in organisations that Solatan Saskin 2014 referred to it as ” the critical factor for making a difference in person’s lives and organization’s success.
” Basically, the role of leaders are, to reduce ambiguity and uncertainty in lives of residents/ members, to give meaning to our existence, to add clarity and direction to members, and to help us learn to make our own meaning in our lives by showing that we can control our lives.
“Leaders must ensure impartial application of the law and to have clear and transparent criteria ( open to all) for their actions. In the words of Late President Yar’ adua of Nigeria.” Leaders must adhere to the rule of law.
“Leaders must create and earn respect rather than seek to instil fear, the greatest factors associated with eye- service and it’s attendant problem like telling lies, pretence it deceiving the CEO, etc. The situation where some staff of an organization will rather face death than enter the office of superior officers to deliver a message that could turn out to be very important and urgent for the effective performance of the organization must be stopped forthwith.
” Despite being the leader, it must be acknowledged that they cannot know everything and so leaders must learn and ensure that the information they provide is absolutely correct. From practical experience this entails that leaders should abstain from careless, flippant and unguarded talks and statements.”
On his part, a former speaker Gombe State House of Assembly and member-elect Yamaltu Deba Federal Constituency Inuwa Garba, who was the guest speaker said the major activities of the house of Assembly is to make laws, appropriate and to scrutinise the budget apart from oversight functions.
He charged the members to see their emergence as a privilege that can be handled with all seriousness ,and encouraged them to lobby for what they want to achieve in their respective constituencies rather than confrontations which brings disunity.
He advised them to build good relationship with their colleagues management and staff of the house in other to excel as legislators.
Garba charged the members-elect to do everything they want to do for the interest of the state so that history will be kind to them .

Speaker of the sixth assembly Abubakar Luggerewo, who enumerated the successes recorded in the sixth assembly, hoped that the seventh Assembly would record more successes in terms of passing bills and other legislative matters.

The clerk to the house, Barrister Rukayya Jalo, appreciated Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, for the enormous support to the house, adding that Gombe state house of Assembly is always a reference point for other states’ houses of Assembly as regards to quality legislation.
