A group under the aegis of coalition of Tangale-Waja Youths and Students Associations on Thursday asked President Bola Tinubu, to nominate Minister from Gombe-South.

Speaking on behalf of the association its Chairman Shuaibu Bilayabu, bemoan the situation where since 1999, nobody from their senatorial zone has been deemed fit to represent the state as Minister.
Recall that the last Minister of Communications and Digital Economy Professor Ali Pantami, is from Gombe-North.
According to Bilayabu, the district has rich cultural heritage, vibrant communities and untapped potential, stressing that its deserves representation at the highest levels of government.
He said, “Yet despite the countless contributions we have made to the development and progress of our great nation we have been overlooked and neglected in the allocation of ministerial positions.
“It is undeniable fact that Gombe State, since the restoration of democracy in 1999, has witnessed the emergence more than eight ministers as well as several heads of Ministries Departments and Agencies. However, a concerning aspect of this trend is that none of these influential positions have been occupied by individuals hailing from Gombe-South.”
Speaking further Bilayabu noted that the absence brings question marks to what may have been the reason for the neglect by successive administrations, adding “This glaring absence raises questions about fairness, and justice in the state’s political landscape. It is imperative that steps be taken to ensure equitable representation across regions of Gombe State, fostering inclusivity and empowering the diverse voices within the region.”
The group also appealed to Tinubu to hasten the confirmation of Dr Umar Hashidu, from Gombe-North who was recently appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari, as Managing Director of North-East Development Commission.
“Hashidu possesses remarkable credentials and a proven track record of dedication to public service. We have complete trust in his ability to be fair. just, and committed to the development of the North-East region. His appointment as the MD of the commission will undoubtedly bring about positive change and catalyze the much-needed socio-economic transformation in the region,” Bilayabu added.
Also speaking, Secretary of the group Bashir Isah, said the present administration has shown signs of being a people’s government, urging that someone from their district be considered.
“we hope this movement yields positive result for the President to consider our zone,” he added.
