SYNW celebrates literary icon Professor Femi Osofisan @ 77
The Society of Young Nigerian Writers has extended her warm congratulations to renowned playwright, poet, and scholar, Professor Femi Osofisan, on the occasion of his 77th birthday.
This milestone celebration marks not only an impressive journey in the world of literature but also a testament to Osofisan’s immense contributions to Nigerian and African literary arts.
In a statement issued by the President of the Society, Wole Adedoyin, described Professor Femi Osofisan, as a distinguished figure in the literary landscape, known for his captivating plays, thought-provoking poems, and insightful essays.
According to Adedoyin, Osofisan has garnered numerous accolades, including the prestigious Nigerian National Order of Merit, which he received in recognising his exceptional intellectual and artistic achievements.
Adedoyin noted that as a former President of the Association of Nigerian Authors, Osofisan has played a pivotal role in nurturing and promoting Nigerian literature, adding that his commitment to literary excellence and his unwavering support for young writers have left an indelible mark on the literary community, inspiring generations of aspiring writers to pursue their creative passions.
“His works often tackle important societal issues, offering insightful commentary on politics, corruption, and the struggles of the marginalised.
“Through his art, Prof. Osofisan has proven that literature can be a powerful tool for social transformation and a medium to amplify the voices of the oppressed.
“The Society recognises Professor Femi Osofisan, as a mentor and role model to countless young writers in Nigeria and beyond.
“His passion for nurturing literary talent has seen him serve as a mentor and supervisor to numerous emerging writers, providing guidance, encouragement, and invaluable insights into the craft of writing.
“His mentorship has empowered many young writers to find their voices and tell their stories authentically.
“SYNW celebrates Prof. Osofisan’s exceptional achievements and the impact he has made on the literary community.
