President Bola Tinubu, on Wednesday suspended from office AbdulRasheed Bawa, erstwhile Chairman of Economic Crimes Commission.
Director Information, Office of Secretary to the Government of the Federation Willie Bassey, made this disclosure in a statement obtained by PERISCOPE NIGERIA.
Recall that Bawa’s suspension is coming after days of Ex-Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria Dr Godwin Emefiele was removed from office.
Our correspondent reports that the erstwhile Chairman was the youngest chairman to superintend the Commission. He was appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari.
According to Bassey, Bawa’s indefinite suspension is sequel to ‘weighty’ allegations levelled against him, adding that he should handover to Director of Operations in the Commission.
The statement partly read, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,GCFR, has approved the indefinite suspension from office of Mr. AbdulRasheed Bawa, CON, as the Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to allow for proper investigation into his conduct while in office.
“This follows weighty allegations of abuse of office levelled against him.
“Mr Bawa has been directed to immediately handover the affairs of his office to the Director, Operations in the Commission, who will oversee the affairs of the Office of the Chairman of the Commission pending the conclusion of the investigation.”
