World Environment Day: Avoid indiscriminate dumping of plastics – Gombe stakeholders sensitise residents

The Gombe State Ministry of Environment and Forest Resources on Monday, commemorated the World Environment Day with a call on people of the state to avoid indiscriminate dumping of plastic wastes.

Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Abubakar Hassan, made the call when he led staff of the ministry and other relevant stakeholders on a road walk from Gombe State Environmental Protection Agency to Gombe Emir’s Palace.
Hassan in his remarks at the Gombe Emir’s Palace outlined some of the measures recommended by the United Nations in controlling plastic wastes which include, reuse of plastics, recycling of plastics and making laws against indiscriminate dumping of plastic wastes.
Also Speaking, the North-East Director of National Environmental and Regulations Enforcement Agency, Charles Joshua said people can earn a living from selling empty plastic instead of dumping them to become hazard to the environment.
The Senior District head of Gombe, Abubakar Abdulkadir, in his remarks called on the State and Federal Governments to support the ministry of Environment and Forest Resources in performing the important task of protecting the environment.
This year’s World Environment Day has the theme “Beat Plastic Pollution”.
