Adebola Hamzat assumes as Commissioner of Police in Oyo State
By Samson Adeyemo
Adebola Ayinde Hamzat, has assumed the esteemed position of Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, marking a significant development in the region’s law enforcement landscape.
PERISCOPE NIGERIA reports that Hamzat takes over the role from Adebowale Williams, who has recently been promoted to the prestigious rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police and has now assumed his duties at the Zone 7 headquarters in Abuja, the capital city.
The appointment of Hamzat was announced through an official approval issued by the Police Service Commission, solidifying his authority and responsibilities as the new Commissioner of Police. Alongside him, a cohort of accomplished individuals have been appointed as state commissioners of police in various regions.
Noteworthy among these appointments are Godwin Aghaulor, who will serve as the Commissioner of Police for the Borno State Command, and Adelesi E. Oluwarotimi, entrusted with the command in Kwara State. Augustina Ogbodo has been assigned to the Ebonyi State Command, and Samuel Titus Musa will undertake the crucial role in the Kebbi State Command, among others. This diverse group of leaders is poised to contribute significantly to the security and well-being of their respective regions.
The Police Service Commission extends its sincere appreciation to the Acting Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for his unwavering commitment to adhering to the latest Policy on gender sensitivity. However, the commission has highlighted the need for the acting IGP to prioritise the inclusion of more officers from the North East and South East geopolitical zones in his forthcoming proposals.
It is noted that these regions have yet to meet the benchmark of 15 percent representation established during the last Plenary Meeting. Emphasising the importance of diversity and equal representation, the commission urges the acting IGP to focus on fostering inclusivity and equitable opportunities in future appointments.
Hamzat assuming the role of Commissioner of Police in Oyo State and the appointment of other distinguished individuals as state commissioners of police across Nigeria, is anticipated that these strategic changes would enhance law enforcement efforts, improve community safety, and promote a more balanced representation within the police force.
