Bola Tinubu as Nigeria’s King Rehoboam
By Nkem Onyekpe
We Nigerians are today, being admonished by President BolaTinubu, and his paid spokesmen to be patient with his government, that things would get better.
Yes, we have got to be patient with the current government which has inherited heavy burden of challenges. But how much patience can we exercise with a government that has approved #70 billion for 469 legislators and #35 billion for the judicial council as palliatives while the people, the bearers of the brunt of hardships, are left to their devices, scavenging as they are doing for survival and quotidian needs?
While we complain that it is economically illogical and morally irreconcilable for federal legislators to be allocated over 25% of the nation’s recurrent budgetary appropriation as their emoluments, the Tinubu government is approving more and more for the same people.
One would have thought that the Tinubu administration would have used the instruments of government to drastically reduce the emoluments of the legislators. But rather than do that, he is enhancing their emoluments. The clear message from him to the people is that the people do not exist, and if they exist, they should go to hell. This is the height of amorality and insensate insensitivity.
If Muhammadu Buhari was Nigeria’s King Solomon who had chastised Nigerians with whips, Bola Tinubu is, indeed, Nigeria’s Rehoboam now adding to our burdens and chasting us with scorpions. Should we not mobilise for uprising before he deploys serpents against us?
