Speaker of Gombe State House of Assembly Abubakar Luggerewo, has named a male member Gabriel Fushison, as Chairman house committee on Women Affairs, Social Development and Special Duties.
The PERISCOPE NIGERIA reports that Adamu Umar, member representing Dukku South would serve as his Deputy.
Also named are 23 other standing committees’ chairmen in the seventh assembly.
Our correspondent reports that this is sequel to the failure of the lone female member Asma’u Ignanus, in the sixth assembly to get reelected in the last election.
Fushison, who is Deputy Minority leader of the house, representing Kaltungo West constituency explained that he would bring to bear his wealth of experience in Non Governmental Organisations by projecting women issues.
According to him, he is grounded in women related issues, especially the human rights, adding that he would yield solutions in areas affecting them.
He said, “By virtue of my interactions i have worked with Non Governmental Organisations and I’m in tune with the affairs of women. I will use the experience to pivot the affairs of this committee to intervene and have good interaction with women. My presence as Chairman will be very impactful to the house.
“By virtue of my involvement in NGO, I have worked on issues relating to human rights violations and my experience will go a long way in protecting the interest of women by tapping in untapped potentials of women.”
While congratulating the leadership of the various 24 standing committees, Luggerewo charged them to be committed, diligent and professional in the discharge of their legislative functions.
