Palliatives: Yobe distributes food items, grains to 500 PWDs

The Yobe State Government through the State Emergency Management Agency has distributed food items, and grains to 500 persons with disabilities meant to cushion the hardship in the Damaturu Local Government area.

While flagging off the exercise, the executive Secretary of the Agency Dr Muhammad Goje, said 500 persons living with Disability following the removal of petrol subsidy as well as the hike in fuel price.

‘‘Following the removal of petrol subsidy President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has initiated steps to relieve the suffering of the public and transit down to state governors. His Excellency Governor Mai Mala Buni directed us to immediately review our stores’ availability and start to respond to the most vulnerable.
‘‘Following our review, we access that the most vulnerable at the moment are the persons living with disabilities because they are the ones that go out to beg to get what they can put food on their table.
‘‘Is its part of subsidy but this is stated deriving subsidy by Governor Mai Mala Buni as a preamble to the subsidy that we are expecting from the Federal Government of Nigeria,’’ he said
He said beneficiaries are 500 persons living with disability 40 percent of them are blind cluster while the remaining of them are women living with a disability.
According to him, Yobe SEMA had a planning meeting with the leadership of PWD, Security agencies, and cluster heads of PWD as well as the head of Yobe Network of Civil Society Organization aimed at strategizing the response and availing opportunities to scale up the support to other LGAs.
Commenting on the Federal Government Palliatives, Dr Goje said the process has been initiated by the federal government and is there in the news as soon as they commence across the board Yobe state will continue from where it stops.
