Police kill one, four others escape during gun duel in Gombe
….parade 17 others over varying crimes

The Gombe State Police command, on Thursday said its operatives encountered five-man gang, killed one, while four others escaped.

Parading 17 other suspects over varying criminal offences in the metropolis, Commissioner of Police Etim Oqua, explained that the gang at Bojude axis, blocked trailer drivers on the Gombe/Degeze Expressway and robbed drivers.
Oqua who was represented by the Deputy Public Relations Officer ASP Saad Sharif, said upon receipt of information operatives in Bojude Division rushed to the scene where they engaged in a gun duel with the gang.

According to him, the corpse of the gang’s leader with his AK-47 were retrieved, stressing that four others escaped with gun wounds.
He said, “At 1:45am today (Thursday) information was received from a trailer driver along the Gombe Bojude axis that some suspected armed robbers have blocked Gombe to Degeze road robbed drivers passengers of their properties.
“On receipt of the information Police operatives attached to Bojude Division who were on routine patrol rushed to the scene on a rescue, on getting to the scene the armed robbers engaged the operatives in a gun duel but were subdued by the fire-power of the Police who succeeded in neutralising one of the robbers and recovered an AK 47 rifle and a phone as exhibits, the corpse will be deposited at the morgue.”
Speaking about the 17 other suspects, the commissioner identified a 22-year-old hunter Haladu Abubakar, alleged to have stabbed woman which resulted to her death in Wuro-Kesa quarters.
He disclosed that formal complaint was received from Adamu Ibrahim of Wuro-kesa quarters area of Gombe metropolis who brought his wife to Gombe Divisional Headquarters in a pool of blood.
“His wife, one Zainab Adamu of the same address saw the suspect and she raised alarm which woke the husband up. She engaged the suspect in a struggle and the suspect brought out a knife and stabbed her on her left hand and ran away. On receipt of the complaint Police detectives from Gombe Division rushed the victim to Federal Teaching Hospital for medical attention, later she died while receiving treatment as a of excessive bleeding.”
Oqua disclosed that detectives swung into action and proceeded to the scene of crime where they recovered one knife and a torch light.
“During the course of investigation, it was revealed that Abubakar, a member of hunters group was seen with a wound by some residents of the area which he claimed to have sustained when he stepped on a sharp object while pursuing bush meat. Suspect was immediately arrested where he confessed to crime. The following exhibits were recovered as follows a dane gun, a knife and a torch light. Case will soon be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigation,” the commissioner added.
