The National Youth Corps Service on Tuesday begged Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, to resuscitate the state’s monthly allowance, following the economic hardship experienced in transportation and cost of living.
NYSC State Coordinator Dawut Jidda, made this plea, in his address during the closing ceremony of batch B stream I orientation course, where no fewer than 1,093 corps participated in the mandatory three-week training at Amada, Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State.

Our correspondent reports that previous administrations stopped the initial N1,000 monthly payment to corps members serving in the state.
According to Jidda, Yahaya should not only consider restoring the payment he should ensure an upward review due to the growing demand in the country.

Jidda said, “We are aware of the current economic situation in the country which affected transportation, food stuffs and other basic amenities. I therefore appeal to His Excellency to consider not only resuscitating the monthly State allowance paid to Corps members but also beefing it to a reasonable amount to cushion the effect of the times we are in. Such action would assist in discouraging Corps members from relocating out of the State, thereby increasing the workforce especially in the education sector.”

The Coordinator expressed confidence that the corps members have been refined to contribute to state and national development, urging the governor to avail the scheme requisite support, “I am pleased to inform hid Excellency and our esteemed dignitaries that, this crop of corps members stood out in character, resilience, patriotism and discipline among other attributes.
“In the course of the just concluded exercise, dignitaries from all works of life visited the camp and commended their high sense of discipline. I have no doubt that we are churning out a set of well refined and fully equipped Corps members, ready to contribute their quota to the growth of Gombe State,” Jidda added.
Declaring the camp activities closed, Governor Yahaya, who was represented by Deputy Governor Dr Manassah Jatau, urged the corps members to maintain their good conduct
“It is the same discipline we ask that you take to anywhere that you will serve. We look up to you to bring the deserved change. Your culture, religion is not the universal law of nature; Charles Darwin, said the specie that will survive is the one that can adapt. You must adapt your community to survive. Don’t disturb your State Coordinator with relocation, no matter where you are it’s still part of Nigeria,” Yahaya said.
