The Gombe State Deputy Governor, Dr Manassah Daniel Jatau, has tasked the Officials of the Boys Brigade of Nigeria to instill in the youths the requisite godly lessons and character that will equip them for future leadership.

Jatau gave the task while addressing a congregation at the ECWA Goodnews Church, in Billiri Local Government Headquarters during a Thanksgiving service organized in honor of outgoing President of Boys Brigade of Nigeria, Dr.Adams I. Borkono and his Council members.
The Deputy Governor assured them that, the APC-led administration of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, will continue to put in place policies and Programs that will encourage the youths to discover their leadership potential towards a better future.

Jatau commended the Boys Brigade for complimenting the efforts of the Government in bringing out the inherent potentials of the Youths through teaching them discipline, skills and and rigours of leadership and self reliance.
The Deputy Governor said, ” In this time of hardship which bible described in Ecclesiastes chapter 12 verse 1b as ” Days will come when you will say, I find no pleasure in them”. Me, I don’t find pleasure in life now. I don’t know about you people. Since we know that we are in the difficult times we should work while it is still day as the book of John Chapter 9 verse 4 says” I must do the work of my father while it is still day…
“The night here could mean death, retirement, old age etc. Therfore we must be ready to practice christianity in it’s practical form by visiting and assisting the sick, the needy and show love to one another irrespective of tribe or religion for us to fulfill this requirement.”
He called on the Christian Association of Nigeria and other christian denominations to de-emphasise denominations and differences of any kind for the love of God to be truly seen in them in line with the prayer “that they may be one as we are one, John 17;11,” he said.
He solicited for prayers for the Government of Gombe State and Nigeria to be successful in shouldering the responsibilities of governance and for peace and unity to reign.
The President Boys Brigade of Nigeria, Barrister Caleb Ubale said, the Thanksgiving service was organised to honour the outgoing leadership of the Boys Brigade in Gombe State led by Dr Adams Borkono.
He commended the outgoing leadership for serving the BB meritoriously and achieving a lot within the six years of two terms.
He said under their leadership the Gombe BB participated and won trophies in the National and Northern Fellowship Bible Quiz, encouraged training and retraining of officers leading to so many promotions of officers, as well as procurement of a utility (Toyota Sienna Bus) for the council among others.
He frowned at some indiscipline behaviours among officers and prayed for spiritual, moral and discipline building of the Boys’ Brigade in the state.
In his remarks, the outgoing President, Dr. Adams Borkono appreciated the support given to his council while serving and the honor to organize a Thanksgiving service for them.
He called on the members to extend the same support to the current leadership, pledging to remain a committed member.
Delivering the sermon, Venerable Buba Obasiya Joshua, took his text from Mathew Chapter 24 verse one and spoke on the topic” Enduring to the end”.
He said the present times are signals of the end stressing the need for christians to take cognisance of the times and live to the glory of God.
The Clergyman commended the outgoing EXCO for enduring the intrigues and challenges of leadership, and admonished the current EXCO on need to endure to the end.
He called on parents to ensure enrolling their wards in the Boys Brigade where they will be taught godly injunctions and live their lives with heaven in view.
Highlight of the occasion was presentation of awards to the outgoing Executive Council members, and renditions of songs by fellowship groups.
