Gombe PDP backs Senator Yaro, threatens to deal with critics
The Peoples Democratic Party has warned party members against making unguarded statements in the media especially against elected members of the party.
The warning was contained in a statement made available to the press, which was signed by Alhaji Adamu Abubakar, and dated August 26, 2023.
According to PDP, it was unacceptable for members to use the media to criticise party’s political leaders, stressing that freedom of speech should not be misconstrued.
The letter partly read, “The Party has observed with serious concern the attitude of some members of our great Party who have developed the habit of going to the media, especially the electronic media to castigate our elected Party representatives unjustly. Such Party members do not follow due process to verify facts before making their unguarded utterances in the media.”
The party warned member to be wary of anti-party activities as any member caught would be consequently dealt with.
“Consequently,any Party member who goes on air to castigate or condemn any of our elected representatives or leaders of the Party without following due process to verify his facts will be sanctioned by the Party accordingly,” letter added.
The party also added that is will not hesitate to take legal actions against those found wanting.
This is coming as a member of the Party (Baba Black) was accused of castigating the Senator representing Gombe South, in the Parliament. The statement described Baba Black as a sponsored blackmailer, whose accusations against the Senator were unjust.
The party has then given Baba Black a 48-hour ultimatum to withdraw his statement and tender an unreserved apology to Senator Siyako Anthony Yaro.
The party threatened that failure to do so will lead to a disciplinary action that will be meted out against Baba Black, in line with Section 59(5) of the party’s Constitution.
