Killers of Gombe Islamic scholar face masked – Police

Gombe State Police command on Wednesday said it has launched investigation into the killing of an Islamic Scholar Ibrahim Albani, at his tabra home, adding that the suspected robbers masked their faces.
Disclosing this in a question raised by journalists on the findings by the police, Public Relations Officer ASP Mahid Abubakar, who spoke on behalf of the Commissioner said no arrest has been made so far.

According to him, the scholar was stabbed with a knife, owing to his failure to succumb to the demands of the alleged criminals.
He said, “Yes, we are aware of the case where four suspected robbers whose faces were covered with masks entered the house and requested money from him but he resisted and was overpowered by the masked men who stabbed him with a knife and cutlasses severally which resulted in his death.
“The Commissioner of Police CP Oqua Etim has directed thorough investigation be carried out on the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
Reacting on possible arrest made to get the assailants Abubakar added, “It was at his residence located in Bobona, Tabra Quarters Gombe, he was stabbed with a knife and cutlass. No arrest made so far but investigation is in process as directed by CP Oqua Etim.”
Meanwhile, during a condolence visit Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, had decried the killing of the scholar, promising to tighten loose ends in security architecture of the state.
He described the scholar’s killers as robbers, decrying why vibrant and erudite Albani’s sojourn was cut short.
“We want to reassure the citizens of Gombe State that the government remains resolute in its efforts to uphold the safety and security of its people. We will continue to take comprehensive measures and apply the superiority of our force to clear and flush our criminals in any part of the state, as well as bring those responsible for this heinous crime to justice to prevent such incidents from recurring. The memory of Sheikh Ibrahim Albani Kuri will serve as a reminder that we must remain vigilant and steadfast in our pursuit of a society where everyone can live in peace and without fear,” Yahaya said.
