S2S Activity has increased citizen engagement, strengthened CSOs Networks in Gombe, says STL
The Gombe State Team Lead, of USAID Nigeria State to State Activity Alhaji Mohammad Abubakar Bello, has enumerated interventions conducted in the state to include improved Planning and Monitoring & Evaluation systems in the state.
The STL stated this in a presentation during the second quarter Partners Forum Meeting held at The Evolution Hotel Gombe supported by Centre for Integrated Health Services (CIHP).
He said other interventions included Manual-launched of Communications Strategy, Internal Generated Revenue IGR Expansion Strategy, Automation of Financial System.
“Increased citizen engagement/participation, strengthened CSOs/Networks, stronger CSO advocacy, Communication Strategy, Community Charter of Demand, Improved GESI awareness, mainstreaming and inclusion of PWDs.Improved conflict management dialogues, strategies, inclusivity,” Abubakar added.
He said current reform gaps requiring government intervention are in basic Education, Primary Health & WASH enumerating the gaps to include Inadequate Funding,Inadequate staffing of primary schools, health & WASH facilities calling for Increased budget allocations, Improved budget releases,recruitment of teachers, doctors, nurses & other health workers.and increased funding of infrastructure.
The STL had told the forum that objectives of the state to state activity is to ” increase efficiency of Sub National Government Operations, Improved Sub national government responsiveness to citizens’needs,” he said.
He said key areas of State2State Activity intervention are in Public Financial Management, Citizen Engagement, Gender and Social Inclusion, conflict management and primary service delivery sectors are primary health care,basic education, water sanitation and hygiene.
“State2State is improving government’s ability to plan and budget, raise revenues,increase responsiveness to citizens needs and priorities and oversee service delivery in Health education, water sanitation and hygiene sectors as well as Improve government and civil society capacities to manage conflict,” Alhaji Abubakar highlighted.
