Subsidy removal: NYSC Coordinator begs Gombe gov to augment food, water supply

The State Coordinator of National Youth Service Corps Gombe, Dawut Jidda, has pleaded with the state government to augment food and water supply on camp, following the removal of fuel subsidy.

Jidda made this plea in his address during the swearing-in ceremony of 1622 batch batch B stream II corps members at Amada temporary orientation camp, Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State.

Our correspondent reports that the Chief Judge of Gombe State Halima Mohammed, who was represented by Mohammed Kumo, administered the oath of allegiance.

Jidda, also used the opportunity to laud the state government for its far-reaching efforts, urging for timely completion of the permanent orientation camp at Boltongo, Yalmatu Deba Local Government Area of the state.
He said, “Permit me to once again express sincere appreciation to the Gombe State Government, for the dependable support and encouragement the Scheme has enjoyed to register five decades of fostering national unity and development. However, Sir, I wish to humbly make a passionate appeal to His Excellency to kindly expedite action on the completion of the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp at Boltongo. It is such a magnificent edifice that when eventually completed, it is most likely to rate as one of the best in the country and it will go a long way to tackle resultant effects of a Temporary location.
“Prior to that, let me also humbly appeal to His Excellency to kindly consider and approve our request for augmentation for feeding and water supply for this 2023 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Orientation Course bearing in mind the effects of inflation as occasioned by the withdrawal of fuel subsidy. Thank you in anticipation of a favourable and prompt attention.”
On his part, Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, who declared the mandatory three-week orientation course open, said the NYSC over the years has produced successful men and women who distinguished themselves in different endeavours, assuring that government remains committed to completing its permanent orientation camp.
Represented by acting Head of Service Ahmed Abdullahi, Yahaya said, “May I use this opportunity to commend NYSC for supporting Gombe in improving the standard of our education in the state by contributing to supplementary manpower for schools in rural and urban areas of the state. Let me assure you that government is committed to completing the permanent orientation camp in Boltongo.”
