Extend professional allowance to our primary school members – NUT appeals
The Gombe State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, on Thursday appealed to the state government to extend the full payment of 27.5 per cent professional allowance to its members in primary schools.

The State Chairman of the Union Comrade Ezekiel Kotinga, who made the appeal during a courtesy call on the Secretary to Government of the State, Professor Ibrahim Njodi at the Government House said this would be in fulfilment of Teachers Salary Structure policy of the Federal Government, adding “extend the full payment of 27.5 per cent professional allowance to Its members in primary schools.”

While commending the State government effort in making the Teaching Profession attractive through various commitments to Teachers and workers welfare the NUT Chairman also called on the government to hasten “payment of annual increment for teachers and lifting the ban on promotion from grade level 15 to 16 as obtained in other states of the Federation,” he said.

Kotinga further noted with delight with government’s commitment to providing Infrastructure in the Education Sector and called for consistency in that direction.
He appreciated government prompt payment of salaries, and the recent employment of additional 1,000 teachers to boost Secondary School sub sector.
The NUT State Chairman used the occasion to congratulate Governor Muhammadu Yahaya on his reelection victory and the SGS on his well deserved reappointment by the Governor which he said was a testament to their unwavering commitment to moving the State to the next level of development and growth.

Responding, Njodi appreciated the role played by the NUT in the reelection victory of the APC government at all levels and assured it of government continued focus on educational advancement of the state
He disclosed it’s for this reason that Governor Yahaya declared state of emergency on the sector on assumption of office which include wide ranges of interventions to improve the hitherto comatose sector.
The SGS said, “the teaching profession remains the most important of all professions and any well meaning government and must accord it the deserved attention for its people to develop and effectively contribute to societal good and progress.”
On the requests presented by the Union, Professor Njodi assured that government would positively look into it with a view to addressing them not only to boost the moral of practising teachers but to also attract more people as according some key subjects like Mathematics and Physics have inadequate teachers.
He equally promised to present their concerns to Governor Yahaya as soon as structures of governance were put in place.
