Gidan Gala: Houses where women, youths are exploited in Gombe
The decision taken by the Gombe State Government to shut down all ‘Gala Houses’ within the state came as a relieve to many parents, lovers of chastity and ambassadors of culture.
Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, order on the immediate closure of these places that served as entertainment point for beer parlour, herm smoking and dancing joints for half nude or tight dressed girls popularly named as Gidan Gala, residents claimed has salvaged alot in the fabric of the state’s morality.
The affected Gala Houses are: Jami’a Gidan Wanka located at Mile 3 Yola Road, Gombe, White House Theatre (Babban Gida) located at New Mile 3 Yola Road, Gombe; Gidan Lokaci General Merchant located at Mile 3 Reservoir Road, Gombe and Farin Gida Entertainment II located at Wuro Karal, Kalshingi Road, Gombe.
Others include Gidan Zamani Entertainment New Mile 3, Yola Road, Tumfure, Gombe; Albarka Entertainment Located at Wuro Karal, Bypass near Hara Form, Gombe; Gala Houses Located at Kuri Town, Lubo village and Kurba village all in Yamaltu Deba Local Government Area.
Also affected are Tauraren Wash located at Trailer Park, Bauchi Road, Gombe and Gala House located at Bajoga Town in Funakaye Local Government Area.
The government blamed its decision on numerous complaints from the residents of the areas they are located as a response to the disturbances, stressing the frequent illegality, criminal activities, and security breaches occurring within these nightclubs as reasons.
A Senior Citizen, Lawan Buba, explained that the Gala houses are breeding ground for women of easy virtue, junkies and criminals.
Another resident of Bye Pass Road area, Musa Teacher, described those involved as social misfits that were recruited from, “our milling jobless youths, failed teenage marriages and as well as the grinding poverty that our society has no solutions to,” he said.
Commending the efforts of government on the ban of the gathering points, he added, “is the best remedy that can save even their children in the future.”
A petty trader, Madam Dora, further explained that, this is similar to what’s was happening in Mabushi quarters of Jos and now it has reached Gombe city.
Madam Dora said, “The number of these houses and girls is increasing in the area; This has increased number of room for rent, but with the closure, the girls will start moving to neighbouring states.
On his part, A ward head Gambo Maiturare, stated that, if the government didn’t shut the Galas of Gombe the number of Gidan Gala will reach a big number by end of the year. “This has become where some men that can not afford to dating girls go to enjoy the night with young girls,” he added.
The respondents commended the government for its prompt action, especially the Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Muhammad Bello Mu’azu, and his operatives for ensuring total compliance.
