Nigerian Labour Congress Gombe State chapter on Thursday, appealed to the state government to extend the gesture of N10,000 palliative given to workers to pensioners.

Recall that the Deputy Governor Dr Manassah Jatau, recently announced N10,000 as palliative, saying that it would be backdated to August.

According to Jatau, the N10,000 is not minimum wage increase but government’s effort geared towards cushioning the challenges of fuel subsidy removal.

In a communiquè issued after an emergency meeting which was signed by the chapter Chairman, Yusuf Bello, he commended the government, while urging that its extends the gesture to senior citizens.

The Communiquè partly read, “The SEC in session has applauded the Gombe State Government’s gesture of offer to pay N10,000 as palliative to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal to the state and Local Government employees.

“However, the SEC in session is appealing to the state government to extend the gesture to the pensioners.”

While urging government to stand down, possible expansion of biometric attendance, till biometric technical meeting with NLC SEC, “Also the SEC in session has unanimously agreed that the state government should put on hold the expansion of the biometric attendance register until when the biometric technical committee meeting with the State Executive Council of Nigeria Labor Congress,” Bello added.
