SON considers establishing training school in Gombe
This was disclosed by the SON Gombe office Coordinator, James Danlami Yakzum, when he paid a courtesy call on the Secretary to Government of the State, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, in his office, on Wednesday to brief him about the organisation’s activities.

To this end, Yakzum requested the state government to allocate SON a plot of land for the construction of the school and office accommodation informing the SSG of organisation’s desire to commence work immediately on the land which would be allocated for the projects.

While commending the state government for the establishment of a world class industrial park, Danlami promised the Agency’s willingness to partner with the state government by offering all needed advice to the government as regard to its environmental, operational safety and security standards at the Muhammadu Buhari industrial park under construction.

Speaking further, he said,the SON office would support in training on the safety of the industrial park as well as engage in certifying products for consumption describing Governor Yahaya’s initiative as apt especially in tackling unemployment in the State.
He informed the SSG that his office is working assiduously to ensure safety of the citizenry by tracking and intercepting expired products which are harmful to human beings, adding that so far they have intercepted 2,750 cartons of expired soft drinks, 2,050 cartons of cosmetic among other goods and products in the state.
He used the occasion to call on the general public to always check manufacturing and expiring dates of products they take or use because of the dangers involved.
Responding, the SGS, Professor Njodi commended the SON for doing a good job in the state tasking them to do more for the benefit of humanity.
He said, “Government will continue to partner with the Standard Organisation of Nigeria in all aspects that will help in making lives of the people better including the professional insight on the ongoing development of the Muhammadu Buhari Industrial Park.”
While appreciating the SON in working towards curbing the menace of expired products which when consumed caused Cancer and other diseases, Professor Njodi challenged the organisation on the need to educate the general public on the dangers associated with expired products.
Njodi also advocated the need for SON Gombe office to conduct seminars to educate the public, assuring them of the state government support at all times.
On the SON request for a plot of land to build an office accommodation and school, the SGS directed them to write formally to his office for onward action by GOGIS, the appropriate authority saddled with land allocation, describing it as a welcome development to the state.
