The visitation panels to Gombe State University and the State Polytechnic Bajoga have presented their reports to Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya on Wednesday in Gombe.

It will be recalled that both panels were inaugurated by the Gombe State Governor on the 27th of July this year to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the two institutions and report same to the State Government.

The Chairman of the visitation panel to Gombe State University, Barrister Achana Gayus Yaro, had while presenting his committee’s report, said in fulfilment of its mandate, his panel worked with commitment, resilience and patience towards meeting the State Government’s expectation of coming up with a report that will guide future policies in respect to the institution.

He said the report been presented is a robust work that emerged out of a careful and extensive deliberation based on mutual consultations, various submissions from stakeholders, engagement with development documents and physical observation among others.

While thanking Governor Inuwa Yahaya for finding members of the panel worthy to serve in the first ever visitation panel to the institution, Yaro assured the Government of finding a precise and all encompassing report that is worthy of consideration.

Equally presenting its report, the Chairman of the visitation panel to the State Polytechnic Bajoga, Dr Maijama’a Kallamu, represented by the Dr. Umar Adamu highlighted some of the challenges militating against the growth of the institution to include; the absence of a Governing Council for the Polytechnic, lack of a conducive teaching and learning environment for staff and students.

Dr Kallamu added that other challenges confronting the institution are insufficient monthly allocation to the Polytechnic, lack of clinic and the urgent need for institution to move to its permanent site so TETfund which has enlisted the Polytechnic for intervention can begin to do the needful.

Responding Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya expressed gratitude to both visitation panels for writing their names in the annal of history pertaining the growth and development of institutions of higher learning in particular and the state in general.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi the Governor stressed that his administration was deliberate in setting up the panels in order to have a bird side view of where and how the state government can intervene in order to enhance effective teaching and learning in the various institutions of higher learning across the state.

Yahaya noted that visitation panels are a necessary ingredient in the administration of higher institutions and therefore assured members that the state government will carefully study the reports and implement same within available resources.

“In the first place no one forced us to set up the panels; so be rest assured that the state government will work with your findings and implement your recommendations in order to make teaching and learning in our institutions of higher learning more effectively, the Governor assured.
