Why Zulum commissioned Vocational Enterprise in Shani LGA

It’s no longer news that Governor Babagana Umara zulum recently visited Shani Local Government Area in southern Borno Maiduguri to commission the Vocational Technical Enterprise and Training Centre.
Those in attendance include Commissioner for Education, and other cabinet members.
The chief host Chairman of the Local Govt Professor Jibir Musa Dibal, Royal Father of the day HRH Alhaji Mohammed Nasiru Mailafiya, Emir of shani; Hon Ibrahim Inuwa Kubo, member state house of Assembly, Comrade Musa Inuwa Kubo(Baba shani) and all respective Local Government Directors and dignitaries,a welcome address was delivered by Emir of Shani, Mailafiya.
In the governor’s speech before the unveiling the training centre conveyed his concern on the serious challenges bedevilling youth unemployment, While expressing optimism that the centre would bridge the gaps.
He disclosed that essence of building the centre would mitigate youth restiveness, “reduce the risk of falling into another crises, also to help in curbing the challenge faced. So, the State Government has come up with this vocational centre to assist in training youths so it can assist them in earning means of livelihood,” he said.
PERISCOPE NIGERIA reports that the centre would train them in 14 different kinds of trades, the centre alongside others in Borno State, were constructed during the last two years, mainly in Borno metropolitan council, Mafa, Magumeri, Shani.
The governor noted that in the near future hostels would be constructed to accommodate those admitted in the school from nearby catchment areas.
While disclosing that the Institute would graduate two sets per annum, he urged those that are not admitted to be patient, adding that the school will admit the next set in five months time.
Zulum said, “The training capacity of the school will be improved to enable an exceptional outcome in trainees with adequate adjustment. The school can adequately admit nothing less than 1000 trainees, and where there is need they may decide to provide additional shift, making two shift for 7am to 1pm from 2pm to 6pm. So that over 4000 youths can be trained per annum, therefore exercise patience,the Government will try its possible best to accommodate everyone and eradicate poverty in Shani LGA and Borno state entirely.”
He called on the Chief Security Officer of the LGA, who is also the Chairman Professor Dibal, police officers and all security personnel in charge to ensure that the institute is well secured and taking care of by deploying adequate police men and Civilian joint task force
to ensure the safety of the the institute.
The governor assured the Emir of Shani and the Local Government Area Chairman that his administration will always adhere to their needs provided they will give him the needed support when the need arises, “The Chief Executive of the state has a lot of functions therefore, there are some certain duties that the Local Government chairman has to also take on. The issue of electrification in the community will be a thing of the past by Gods grace because the state Government will connect all the villages and townships mentioned as a National Duty, while the Local Government Chairman should handle the matter of Rehabilitation of the Local Government Secretariat, Gods willing we will provide transformers and other appliances needed to provide adequate electricity supply to the town.
“I want to ensure his Royal Highness that Government of Borno state, has made a commitment to establish a mega high Islamic Colleges In all the 27 Local Government Areas of Borno State. So far so good, we have constructed it in maiduguri, munguno, Gubio,Damboa Local Governments these mega schools are having the capacity of 3,000 students, also ongoing construction is taking place in Dikwa and Ngala Local Government Areas right now, it is completed in Biu local Government also an ongoing construction in Kwaya kusar LGA is about to be Completed.
“By Gods Grace before the expiration of my tenure all Local Government headquarters of Borno state must have one functional high Islamic College, to ensure that we streamline Non formal educational sector into the Formal educational sector, there will also be certificate issued after every training,” Zulum added.
Borno State Governor assured that under his leadership he would do everything possible to uplift the standard of education in Borno State both Islamic and western education.
He said, “Again i want to promote four basic matters in the state; intensive literacy, intensive Numeracy, Digital literacy,as well as technical and Vocational education therefore Borno state will also construct at least one computer training centre in all the Local Government Areas of Borno State by Gods grace.
“We shall do so in the next two years, i therefore urge the people of Shani Local Government to maintain this building, ensure sustainability of this project which is very important, sustainability is keyword that needs to be adhered to. I urge staff of the centre to be educated enough to enable impact good knowledge to the student trainees, under no circumstance students should be graduated without getting the requisite knowledge in there respective trades, under no condition for a young man to be trained for only two weeks to become a tailor or carpenter, such act will not be tolerated therefore all staff should beware, the trainees should undergo a training of minimum of six months which is mandatory, at the end of their training government will provide a starter pack for all respective graduates so they can be self reliant.
“Lastly on this note, let me use this opportunity to express my sincere appreciation to the Commissioner for Education, Commissioner for Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement, members present, Alhaji Goni Ibrahim, Abu Yelwa, Alh Idi and others, that’s few to mention among others for all the support they have been rendering to uplift the standard of Vocational training Education in Borno State,also I want to appreciate his Royal Highness Alhaji Mohammed Nasiru Mailafiya,the local Government chairman Professor Jibir musa Dibal, and all stakeholders in particular our father Alhaji Baba Musa Inuwa Kubo.”
Speaking earlier, Engineer Peter Malgwi, the pioneer Principal Director of the Vocational Centre, who is a retired Chief Lecturer in Potiskum Yobe State, lauded the commitment of the governor towards ensuring safety and wellbeing of Borno state indigenes by deeming it fit to introduce the institution to provide skills for idle and out of school pupils to become self reliant.
“Also to reduce the creation of nuisance to society by ensuring they become useful and self employed in there various localities,” he said.
In the closing remarks by the chairman shani Local Government area, Professor Dibal, appreciated Zulum for all the achievement and development achieved in all local Government areas of Borno State at large.
