Agency seeks to partner NOA, Service on HPV, measles vaccination
Taraba State Primary Health Care Development Agency team led by the Executive Secretary, Dr Tukura Yusuf Nyigwa, has visited the National Orientation Agency and the Taraba State Broadcasting Service.

Nyigwa said the visit was geared towards seeking partnership for the dissemination of information to the state on the forthcoming campaign on Human Papillomavirus and Measles.
He stated that a statewide campaign for the HPV vaccination is being prepared by the agency which would target girls between the ages of nine-14 years. This will be followed by the Gavi supported measles supplementary immunisation activity.
“Health Centres, Schools, Places of Worship, Hospitals etc are the channels through which this campaigns will be implemented. The campaign is scheduled for 24th October and 18th November respectively,” the Executive Secretary said.
Nyigwa disclosed that there’s a high need for girls to be vaccinated against the Human Papillomavirus adding that “it is the most common sexually transmitted disease, which can also result to the deadly cervical cancer. Measles on the other hand mainly affects children and has no effective treatment other than the preventive vaccination.”
“it is unacceptable for children to die of measles when there is an opportunity accorded to them to get vaccinated prior to infection.” He stressed that measles is a highly infectious viral disease which is also deadly among children. Other complications attached to measles are blindness and pneumonia,” he added.
The agency also offers free routine vaccination services against other preventable diseases.
The heads of the two institutions, in their separate responses assured the team of collaboration and cooperation in ensuring the spread of the information in Taraba State.
