Gombe FA Chairman appointed as Head of Nigeria National League Disciplinary Committee
The Chairman of the Gombe State Football Association, Mr Phillibus Yakubu Sarma, has been appointed as the Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee of the Nigeria National League.
The announcement was made through a letter signed by the Chief Operating Officer of the league, Dr. Ayi Abdulrahaman.
Mr Sarma’s appointment was attributed to his extensive experience and expertise in the field of football administration.
Reacting to the appointment, Mr Sarma expressed his gratitude and acknowledged the significant responsibility that comes with the role.
He said, “Honestly, it is a big task, but God will help us, most especially with the way things were done before in NNL as we intend to effect some changes. We will tread on lots of toes, but God help us, we will do our best.”
The Chairman also stressed the importance of teams adhering to league rules and laws, as well as allowing match officials to perform their duties without interference.
He stated, “We would like to urge teams to strictly adhere to the league rules and laws of the game, and match officials should be allowed to do their job as required by the law. The league was adjudged a cash-and-carry league in the past, but with this new board, it is not business as usual. Both teams and match officials must sit up, so. we can have the best in line with the present Gusau-led NFF board.”
When questioned about possible punishments for teams that violate the rules, Mr. Sarma outlined various sanctions, saying, “It could be fines, point deductions, and even both, depending on the rules broken.”
The 2023/24 season of the Nigeria National League is set to kick off on October 28th, with Dakkada FC facing off against 1472 FC in the inaugural match. This will be the only match played during the first week of the season, with other Matchday One matches scheduled for November 4th, 5th, and 6th, 2023, at various venues.
