Independence from colonial masters not total freedom when poverty, others abound – Adeboye
The General Overseer Redeemed Christian Church of God Pastor Enoch Adeboye, says a Nation could still be in captivity after attaining independence from its colonial masters.
Adeboye stated this on Sunday, during the church’s monthly thanksgiving service monitored by our correspondent, October edition coincidences with Nigeria’s 63rd anniversary.
He ministered on ‘free indeed’, noting that freedom is holistic and not one sided.
According to him, a rich man is not one with many bank accounts and credit but one who doesn’t go around begging for food, or resources.
Our correspondent reports based on Debt Management Office Nigeria’s total public debt hit N87.38tn, at the end of the second quarter of 2023. The figure represents an increase of 75.29 per cent or N37.53tn compared to N49.85tn recorded at the end of March 2023.
He said, “You can be enjoying independence from the colonial masters and still be in slavery to sickness, poverty, terror from forces of darkness but if you come to the Son (Jesus), he will set you free.
“I am wishing you a very good celebration but more than anything else I wish all of you who are already in Christ freedom and freedom indeed.”
Speaking further on the essence of freedom, Adeboye noted that man has three aspects which include body, soul, and spirit, adding that freedom transcends to spiritually, materially and physically.
“You cannot claim that you are free indeed if you have physical problems and you are bound by physical or spiritual darkness. To be free indeed, you must not be in bondage physical, material and spiritual.
“All these evil forces are under your feet if you are a child of God because the feet are the lowest part of the body. So, even if you are the lowest part of the body of Christ, all these evil forces are still under you. When you are in Christ, then you know the meaning of true freedom, free indeed.
“What is applicable to the individual can become applicable to a nation because a nation is made of individuals. And that is why you must join forces together as much as possible to bring salvation to our nation by bringing as many souls to Christ because whomever the Christ shall set free, shall be free indeed,” he said.
Adeboye also urged his congregation to intensify prayers for their actual freedom adding “That is why you have a responsibility to keep praying for your nation, for individuals that are yet to be safe that God will save their souls, and the more of us that are saved, the easier it will be for every one of us to say we are now free indeed.”
