Kogi Governorship Election: NNPP collapses structure for Labour Party’s Okeme
The New Nigeria Peoples Party, has collapsed its structure in support of Barrister Adejoh Okeme, the governorship candidate of the Labour Party.
Our correspondent reports that no fewer than 500 former members of the NNPP cutting across the 21 Local Government Areas of the state were received into the party in a ceremony held at the labour party Secretariat, Lokoja on Sunday.
The election is billed for November 11, 2023.
Kabir Maman, the Zonal Chairman of NNPP, who led supporters to declare support for Okeme said that his members arrived at the decision to join forces with Labour after a careful scrutiny of all parties aspiring to the governorship position and have found him worthy in view of his promises to work tirelessly to alleviate the poverty of the youths.
He said, “We are particularly fascinated by his promise to revive Ajaokuta steel company to create job opportunities for our teaming youths.
“We also see him as someone under which the resources of the state will be safe and ensure that everyone gets what is due to him.”
Earlier the state party Chairman, Alhaji Abdul Suleiman, and other state executive members who received the defectors into the party outlined some of the benefits they stand to gain by joining labour party.
“You are coming into a party where every member is equal irrespective of when you join,we are one and the same,no one is above the other,” he noted.
He urged them not to joke with women folks as should be carried along in the scheme of things.
“Women at all levels should be carried along as the campaign progressed, you will agree with me that women are very powerful in the area of mobilisation and also for the bulk of voter at every election., therefore you cannot afford to neglect them.”
On his part, Barrister Adejoh Okeme, described himself as someone who has been tested in the area of job creation and youth employment who has also invested in the state due to the love I have for the people of the state as opposed to other candidates who had no single investment in the state.
“All others has their investments out Kogi while the youth at home has no jobs while insecurities becomes rampant in the state,” Okeme said
He said that his agenda for Kogi State is security, peaceful coexistence, prompt payment of salaries, pension, gratuities, health care delivery, educational development, agricultural revolution, industrialisation and investment.
“Infrastructural development, youths and women empowerment, sports development and Local Government autonomy will firm the fulcrum of our administration as from 27th January 2024 when we will assume the position of governorship,” Okeme added.
