Nasarawa United set to play Standard FC Saturday
Coach Usman Adams is gradually building his team to withstand any force after leading his charges to a superlative 2-0 win over Yaro Mai-Kyau Football Academy of Abuja in their second pre-season game at the training pitch of the main bowl of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, on Friday evening.
Basking in the euphoria of their first win against stubborn CKD Football Academy, a day ago, at the FIFA Goal Project Field, National Stadium, Abuja, the Solid Miners improved on their performance in Friday’s duel, dictating the pace and establishing their authority in all departments of the field.
However, United squandered numerous goalscoring opportunities, with the first-half ending 0-0 apiece.
After receiving some pep talks from the Technical Bench during the break, accompanied with some changes made, the Solid Miners broke the jinx in the 55th minute.
Ibrahim Sarki was well-positioned to tap into an empty net courtesy of a Destiny Nyam’s cheeky assist.
The hosts almost responded immediately, but striker, Emmanuel’s effort was kept in check by the United’s backline.
Twenty minutes later, the Solid Miners increased their goal tally with a breathtaking diving header by Patrick Iwuji, after being found through by a Sambo Gambo’s diagonal cross.
Both sides pushed further to alter the scoreline, but it remained unchanged as the Lafia-based Nasarawa United recorded their second consecutive victory since their tour of Abuja in preparation for the commencement of the 2023/24 Nigeria National League, which will Kick-start on Saturday, 28th October, 2023.
The Solid Miners would engage Standard FC on Saturday morning in another tune-up game at the FIFA Goal Project Field, by 10 o’ clock.
