Mrs Hadiza Usman, the Programme Manager, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the end of three-day engagement with stakeholders in Yola.

She said that the engagement is for enhancing gender-responsive security operations and community dialogue project in Nigeria, phase II.

“This is a 2-year strategic project (2023-2024) being implemented by UN Women in Collaboration with the Adamawa State Government and PWAN, with Support from the Government of Germany.

“We commenced implementation of this project in Borno and Yobe States and the second phase have just been approved expanded to Adamawa,” she said.

According to her, Numan and Yola North Local Government Areas have been selected to pilot the project.

She said stakeholders engaged were drawn from National Human Right Commission, Police, Civil Society Organisations, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and traditional institutions, among others.

She said these measures would improve on the lives of women having challenges in communities in the state.

Usman said the stakeholders would also focus on GBV and engage on several community projects.

“Like Community Safety Platform is to have more grassroots composition, identify issues at the grassroots on how address the issues and to carry out sensitisation in the community.

“To enlighten people not only on their rights but the proffer channel to report any infraction to their rights and give them support.

“We will also work with five Lead Women Organisations, we intend to build their capacity to be able to cater to the need of people, engage with two other platform to improve the life of people and to enhance security situation in the people,” she said.
