The Osun State Chapter of the Association of Nigerian Authors marked a historic moment on October 29, 2023, as members exercised their democratic rights in an election that determined the leaders who will guide the largest writers’ body in Africa for the next two years in Osun.
Under the able guidance of Mr. Camillus Ukah, the ANA National headquarters provided directives, ensuring a smooth and compliant electoral process.
The election, organized by a dedicated three-man Electoral Committee led by Mr. Femi Omoniyi and supported by Mrs. Nike Adesanya and Mrs. Samuel Otunla, was notably peaceful and devoid of rancor.
Mr. Freeman Okosun, the outgoing National Assistant Secretary of ANA who monitored the Election on behalf of the ANA National expressed his satisfaction with the exceptional work carried out by the Committee.
He applauded the groundbreaking nature of their efforts and commended the maturity displayed by both delegates and contestants, highlighting the professionalism and decorum exhibited throughout the exercise.
ANA Osun Election Organizing Committee reports that Odetayo Wasiu Omobewaji emerged the Chairman, while Mr. Olaonipekun Olatunde was elected Secretary.
Other elected officials include Oladejo Haneef (Vice Chairman), Ahmed Aishat Ibidun (Assistant Secretary), Wole Oyerinde (Financial Secretary), Babatunde Abdulhakim (Public Relations Officer), Afeez Olagunju (Treasurer) and Suliyat Adepoju (Auditor).
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Odetayo Wasiu Omobewaji pledged to lead with an open-door policy, emphasizing inclusivity and collaboration.
He earnestly solicited the unwavering support of ANA Osun members, recognising that their collective effort is essential for the success of the newly elected executive committee.
The newly elected executives have hit the ground running and have already begun their work, demonstrating their dedication to advancing the literary arts in Osun State.
