The Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, has been returned elected in the just concluded gubernatorial election.
Diri, who was candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party polled 175,196, to defeat his closest rival and second All Progressives Congress’ candidate Timipreye Slyva, scored 110,08 to come second.
Diri won six local government areas to win re-election while his closest rival, Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress (APC) won two local government areas.
After the result of Southern Ijaw was declared, the margin between Diri and his closest challenger, Timipre Sylva, climbed to 65,088.
Diri polled a total of 175,196 votes to defeat his main challenger, Sylva, who polled 110,108 votes to win the governorship election.
Reacting to the development in a post via his X handle on Monday, Onanuga congratulated Diri on his re-election as the Bayelsa governor.
He wrote: “Congrats to Governor Douye Diri of the PDP for winning re-election in Bayelsa.”
