The Emir of Akko, Alhaji Umar Muhammad Atiku, has supported students from Akko emirate with scholarships amidst tuition fees increase.
Recall that Federal University Kashere increased its tuition fees which resulted in serious concerns among students and youth calling for support from stakeholders.
The Emir announced a scholarship on Thursday to vulnerable students who could not afford to pay the tuition fee from Akko Emirate when the leadership of the National Association of Akko Students National Secretariat visited him at his palace in Kumo.
Atiku urged the student leaders to preach unity and peace among students while soliciting support from stakeholders to ensure that vulnerable students are registered, so that no one would drop out due to the hike in school fees.
“I wish to announce the donation of the sum of two N200,000 support as a scholarship to the vulnerable students that cannot afford to pay the school’s fees due to the recent increment.
“The union should ensure that only legit cases of vulnerability are sorted and supported with scholarships among the students so that the funds will be utilized,” he said.
Speaking earlier, Bashir Garkuwa, National President of Akko Students said they visited the Emir to inform him of the challenges students are facing, “due to the increase in the school fees and to seek for his support towards providing scholarships to vulnerable students of the Kashere University,” he added.
