…..from N650 to N1,500
The Gombe State Coordinator of National Youth Service Corps Dawut Jidda, has lauded the Director-General Brigadier General Yusha’u Ahmed, for reviewing Corps members meal allowance from N650 to N1,500.
Jidda made this disclosure on Wednesday in his address during the visit of Ahmed to the temporary orientation camp in Amada, Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State.
He disclosed that so far no fewer than 1,184 corps members have been registered comprising 676 males and 508 females.
According to him, the men and women have since their registration displayed a sense of integrity, dedication, loyalty, adding that they have shown understanding in staff running of activities
Speaking about the welfare of Corps members, Jidda noted that there have been improvement in meals served following the intervention of the current helmsman.
He said, “Those of us who go to the kitchen, can testify to their good work in the kitchen they have done a lot to see that meals are served on time and are cooked very well. Gentlemen corps members I told you that before the 2023 batch B steam I during batch A corps members received N650 for their feeding but when our Director-General came onboard he struggled hard to ensure the money was reviewed to N1,500. The DG didn’t stop there he worked hard to ensure that transportation allowance paid on camp of N1,800 was reviewed to N 3,600 bicycle allowance was also reviewed from N1400 to N2,800.”
Speaking further he lamented that previously mattresses were borrowed before the commencement of camp stressing that it had stopped following approval to get new foams to serve it population, “Before orientation previously we used to go to College of Education to borrow mattresses but when DG came when the DG assumed office we requested and got approval for 300 new mattresses. We have stopped going to anybody to borrow mattress,” he said.

On his part, Ahmed whose entourage arrived late evening at the temporary orientation camp, assured the Corps members that the scheme prioritises their welfare, warning against unapproved journeys, “you must desist from embarking on late night journey, if you must travel you must go to approved parks. Avoid moving at night,” he said.
Ahmed donated three cows to celebrate the 1,184 corps members which would be slaughtered at the end of their orientation course, urging them to determine “the way the cows are to be treated from sharing,” he added.
