The Gombe State Chairman on farmer-herder Conflict Prevention and Settlement of Disputes Committee, Dr Barnabas Malle, has lauded the efforts of Alhaji Ibrahim Buba Dukul, the caretaker Chairman of Kwami Local Government Council, in maintaining peace in the area.
Malle, who also serves as the state Commissioner for the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, and Cooperative, expressed this commendation during the committee’s visit to Malam Sidi, the local government’s headquarters.
He noted that the purpose was to encourage the council chairman, security agencies, and all stakeholders to intensify their efforts in preserving peace.
Pledging the committee’s support for a successful harvest period, Malle expressed satisfaction with the measures taken to calm the recent incident at Daban Fulani, urging Alhaji Ibrahim Buba Dukul, to sustain the positive momentum.
Highlighting the peace-loving nature of the State Governor, Alhaji Mohammad Inuwa Yahaya, who initiated the committee, Malle called on farmers and herders to be law-abiding citizens during the upcoming harvest season.
In his address, Dukul, the Caretaker Chairman of Kwami Local Government Council, appreciated Governor Inuwa Yahaya for constituting the committee and appointing individuals of proven integrity. He attributed the recorded successes in the area to these appointments.
The caretaker Chairman provided more details on the incident in Daban Fulani, stating that “the suspected persons were under police custody for investigation and will face the law if found guilty.”
He commended the support received from security agencies and traditional rulers.
The State Chairman of Miyetti Allah, Alhaji Modibbo Yaya, the representative of the State Chairman of All Farmers Association of Nigeria, Alhaji Magaji Baba, and the District Head of Nasarawo, Alhaji Usman Shetima, also emphasised the importance of disregarding fake alarms and avoiding vigilantism for the sake of peace.
On his part, Alhaji Aminu Haruna Abdullahi, the Senior District Head of Kwami and Ajiyan Gombe, thanked the state governor and the committee for their efforts. He pledged full support towards the maintenance of peace and stability in the state and Nigeria as a whole.
