Ishaku who lost in the 2023 senatorial bid to represent the southern senatorial district of Taraba, is allegedly to dump the Peoples Democratic Party, and reunite with senator Emmanuel Bwacha to ensure a possible victory for the APC in the 2027 governorship election in Taraba.
A close source to presidency who is from Taraba but pleaded not be mention in the news, told our correspondent that the former governor has scheduled a meeting with president Bola Tinubu, and the National Working Committee, of APC which is to be hold on the second week of January 2024.
According to the source, president Tinubu is to reunite the former governor with senator Emmanuel Bwacha and other APC stakeholders in the southern senatorial part of Taraba to wrestle power from Governor Agbu Kefas, come 2027.
“President Tinubu has accepted former governor Darius Ishaku’s request to join the All Progressives Congress APC. They have scheduled a meeting for second week of January 2024.
“The former governor would be returning to Nigeria between third or fourth of January to have a meeting with president Tinubu, the National working committee NWC of APC, Emmanuel Bwacha and other APC stakeholders in the southern senatorial district of Taraba state,” the source disclosed.
Meanwhile, Mr Bala Dan Abu, the Special Adviser to Ishaku on Media and Publicity, denied knowledge about the former governor’s political intention.
“I don’t know if my boss is willing to join the APC or has scheduled any meeting with the President. The former governor has been abroad and has not returned. We have been talking but has not disclosed his next political journey to me,” Abu denied.
Our correspondent reports that no opposition party has ever tested the governorship seat of Taraba since the return of democracy in 1999, due to alleged religious factor and sectionalism.
