A group under the aegis of National Patriotic Elders Forum for Peace and Unity, has faulted the World Bank reports, indicating that there would be severe food shortage that will result in hunger and starvation in Nigeria.
In a statement by the Forum’s President, Bature AbdulAziz in Kano on Friday, he said Nigeria Agricultural activities does not center in the few areas investigated by the World Bank.
AbdulAziz said that every aspect of the Nigerian states are blessed with natural resources, including farming activities as such the reports showing some few local Governments having problems in this year’s farming season is a faulted one.
He said, “You cannot use some 17-20 local governments having problems with the rainy season, against the 774 local governments that are largely agrarian society to show that the whole country is having problems this year”.
The Elders Forum President, explained that what Nigeria and its citizens lack is enough funds for supplies which lead to poverty and hunger but not enough food, “we are blessed with enough varieties of foods,” he added.
AbdulAziz, in the same vein, said the Federal Government should do more to check the heightened rise in exchange rates with the Dollar as the major problem.
“I think, Nigeria, today is facing a serious problem with exchange rates with Dollar as the major problem and President Tinubu should do more to reduce the price of Dollar both at the parallel market and the official one.
He added that, “Nigeria would not get it right with the current exchange rates, impact this is the major reason why today there is hunger and starvation in the country and the Government must quickly arrest the situation.”
