…..Empowers students with disabilities on emergency response

Kennedy Lugar’s Youth Exchange and Study Association of Nigeria recently organised Disability Red Alert aimed at empowering students with disabilities on emergency response to disaster and risks situation in four states.


The states include Adamawa, Taraba Nasarawa and Yobe State.
In statement made available to inclusive reporters, participants in Adamawa were drawn from, LCCN Deaf Centre Academy, and Cathedral Academy, Remi Special needs school, Adamawa Association of the Deaf and Joint National Association of PWDs, Adamawa State Chapter
The training continues in Taraba including Nasarawa and Yobe States.
Participants from Nasarawa and Taraba were drawn from Dunama Special Educational Centre, International Precious Kids School Magai, Deaf Literacy School and others.

Inclusive reporters further learnt that trainers were drawn from the men of Nigeria Red Cross state branches, Federal Road Safety Corps, state branches, federal and state fire services and all the trainers are from the state’s branch where the workshop held
The workshop is aimed to empower students with disabilities on emergency response to disaster, risks situation and early emergency warning and it was a One-Day workshop inclusive reporters learnt.
The people working to implement the project are Disability Red Alert team which is made up of the KL-YES alumni.
Some of the Red cross branches donated first aid box that contains some items and tools for response to emergency treatments. To help students with disabilities respond to first aid when encountered with accidents with in the school compound.
The Secretary General of Joint Association of PWDs Adamawa State chapter Mr Musa Saleh, commended the organisation for organising such an important programme for students and youth with disabilities in his state.
“We appreciate the organisers of the programme especially Ashiru Abubakar, aka Nagoma and his organisation for the job well done.
The students were able to learn how to rescue themselves from fire incidents and emergency response on health issues from the men of fire services department and Red Cross.
