The International Human Rights Art Movement says its has taken significant strides in advancing the cause of human rights in Africa by leveraging the transformative influence of the Arts.
Spearheading these efforts is Wole Adedoyin, whose collaboration with IHRAF has catalysed groundbreaking initiatives across the continent.
In 2020, Wole Adedoyin forged a pivotal partnership with IHRAF, officially introducing the organization to Nigeria and Africa at large. The inaugural END SARS National Poetry Competition marked a historic moment, becoming IHRAF’s first physical project in the region under Adedoyin’s visionary leadership.
Under Adedoyin’s guidance and with the unwavering support of IHRAF’s Founder and Executive Director, Thomas Block, various literary endeavors have flourished. These include the END SARS National Poetry Competition, the African Human Rights Essay Competition, the African Human Rights Short Story Competition, and the African Human Rights Playwriting Competition. The ongoing African Human Rights Spoken Works Competition stands as a testament to IHRAF’s commitment to fostering creative expressions that advocate for human rights.
Through these impactful projects, IHRAF has successfully cultivated a vibrant community of African writers, bringing their voices to the forefront. Notably, IHRAF has published four anthologies, featuring the works of over 500 African writers. These anthologies, such as “From Africa With Love: Voices of a Creative Continent,” “Get Consent: Poetry and Essay Anthology on Rape and Sexual Violence Against Women,” “The Malady and the Remedy: An International Essay Anthology on Human Rights Abuse in Africa,” and “END SARS Rhythms: A Collection of Poems on Police Brutality, Assaults, and Battery,” amplify the diverse narratives and creative expressions addressing critical human rights issues on the continent.
IHRAF’s commitment to advancing human rights in Africa through the Arts continues to resonate, fostering a culture of inclusivity, empathy, and advocacy.
IHRAF remains dedicated to shaping a brighter, more equitable future for all Africans through the transformative power of artistic expression.
