Gombe State Government has trained 114 livestock extension workers on modern animal husbandry practices across the 11 Local Government Areas of the state.
PERISCOPE NIGERIA reports its government efforts to ensure food security, fight poverty, encourage self-reliance and improve the local economy.
Speaking during the one-day training workshop in Gombe, the State Coordinator Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Project, Professor Usman Bello Abubakar, stated that the essence of the training is to build citizens capacity on improved livestock production specially rural farmers to boost their economic status.
He added that the training is also targeting farmers and livestock service providers on good animal husbandry across the 11 local government areas of the state.
While assuring that similar workshops would from time to time be organized, the project coordinator added that the workshop will equally instill modern livestock practices to participants and improve agricultural value chain through modern practices.
He charged the participants to step down the knowledge, maintaining that they have developed a monitoring mechanism to assess how the extension workers impact on the local communities.
One of the resource persons; Deputy Director Livestock Services Department in the state’s ministry of agriculture Muhammad Bashar Alhaji, said the workshop will equip participants with modern animal husbandry techniques and how they can step the knowledge down to rural farmers.
Some participants Adeline Musa from Kaltungo and Abdul’aziz Muhammad Gelengu from Balanga, said the workshop has boosted their capacity and understanding on modern animal husbandry techniques, and how best to manage and treat animals for improved gains.
They appreciated L-PRES, Gombe State Government and the World Bank for the opportunity, assuring to step the knowledge down to their communities.
