The fifth Taraba Tiv Supreme Council (Ijiir Tamen), on Sunday appealed to Governor Agbu Kefas, to resettle Internally Displaced Persons and ensure adequate security in farming communities across the state to guarantee food security.
This was contained in a communique issued at the end of the 5th Supreme Council and the 23rd Tiv Day Cultural Celebration held at the Tiv Council Hall in Bali, Bali Local Government Area of the state and signed by Zaki David Gbaa Chairman Tiv traditional Council Taraba, and Secretary, Zaki Nelson Targema and made available to journalists in Jalingo.
According to the communique, the Supreme Council applauded the efforts and commitment of Governor Agbu Kefas, toward maintaining peace and providing a peaceful atmosphere for all.
Part of the communique read, “The Supreme Council appealed to Governor Agbu Kefas to facilitate the return of all displaced persons to their ancestral homes and provide security to enable farmers to access their farms to ensure food security.
“The council also appreciated the Governor for the appointment of Hon. Habu James Philip as Commissioner in his cabinet and Hon. Mrs. Mercy Gbashi as Secretary, Donga Local Government Council and further appealed for the appointment of more Tiv sons and daughters in subsequent appointments.
“The State Government should provide agricultural inputs to farmers to encourage them to produce more food for the state and the nation.
“That all Tiv stakeholders and traditional rulers in various Local Government Areas of Taraba State should immediately caution their subordinates against crime and to be security conscious.”
While calling on all Tiv people to imbibe the spirit of unity, love and tolerance for one another as a panacea for development, the supreme council ratified the nomenclature of the Tiv traditional leaders’ Council “Ter Taraba” to be known as “Gum Begha u Tiv Taraba,” Its read.
