A group of students from Government Day Secondary School Nukkai, located in Jalingo Local Government Area of Taraba State, have made a request to Governor Agbu Kefas for urgent assistance.

During an interview with journalists, the students who did not want their names mentioned appealed to the governor to provide additional classrooms and renovate existing ones, to create a better learning environment for them.
They expressed concern over the deteriorating state of the school, stating that the number of students has increased significantly due to the free education scheme declared by the governor.
The students also expressed fear of outsiders’ mistreatment due to the lack of a barrier between the school and the polytechnic and requested the governor’s assistance in establishing a fence around the school.

Reports gathered by our reporter indicate that the school lacks several facilities, including a befitting examination hall, staff room, and furniture.
It was discovered that the school, which previously had 900 students, now has over 3,000 students, including both boys and girls.
Mr Anthony David, a member of the host community of the school, commended the Principal and management of the school for constructing a new block of classrooms that are yet to be completed.

He stated that the project was initiated by the present Principal of the school, in conjunction with the Parents Teachers Association .
He urged Kefas to review the free education system and consider allowing schools to continue collecting the PTA fee, as the government cannot do everything alone.
David also commended Governor Kefas for his efforts toward developing the state and improving the living standards of its citizens.
