….No LG is insolvent in Gombe
Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, on Sunday said his administration is not afraid of conducting council poll, expressing optimism that the All Progressives Congress would emerge victorious.
Yahaya who didn’t state how soon, said the process would be credible for interested parties to participate.
He made this disclosure at the banquet hall of Gombe State Government House, during a dinner to celebrate the exit of the overseeing local government bosses.
Our correspondent reports that the last poll was conducted since 2020, with APC clearing entire seats. However, since the expiration of their tenure government had extended their terms in caretaker capacity twice.
He said, “We are not afraid of elections, we are going to Local Government election soon. We will be victorious; the date for the LG election will be announced soon.”
While commending the caretaker bosses Yahaya appreciated them for their service, urging residents to forgive their shortcomings.
“I wish to seek for forgiveness for those they offended, i take responsibility for all the LG caretakers did,” Yahaya said.
He noted that non of the 11 Local Government Areas in the state could be said to be insolvent, adding “We ended borrowing of N1.3 billion to pay LG salaries. Now we over 6 billion Naira in the LGAs coffers. We have ensured timely payment of salaries.”
Responding, Abubakar Barambu, outgoing caretaker Chairman of Akko Local Government Area, lauded the governor for organising the dinner to honour them for their efforts geared towards improving lives of residents.
He added, “I wish to assure you of our continued support, loyalty and above all prayers for the successful completion of your tenure of office as governor of Gombe State.”
Deceased Gombe Caretaker Chairman Aliyu Haruna, was given posthumous award which was received by outgoing caretaker Chairman of Kwami LGA, Ibrahim Buba.
