In a monumental stride towards fostering global literary collaboration, the JP Clark Society announces its decision to register with the revered Alliance of Literary Societies (ALS).
A statement released by the Director of the Society, Wole Adedoyin, confirms this historic move that underscores the JP Clark Society’s commitment to preserving the legacy of the late Professor John Pepper Clark-Bekederemo, fondly known as J.P. Clark.
Founded in 1973, the Alliance of Literary Societies is a renowned umbrella organization that brings together literary societies primarily based in the United Kingdom. The ALS, with over 120 member societies, originated from a campaign to preserve a property associated with Charles Dickens. Today, it stands as a formidable force in promoting literary appreciation and cultural heritage.
Marty Ross, ALS Chair and President of the Johnson Society Lichfield, expressed in a heartfelt message the Alliance’s eagerness to welcome the JP Clark Society as a valuable addition to its community of literary enthusiasts. This collaborative endeavor signifies a shared commitment to championing diverse voices and honoring the contributions of literary figures on a global scale.
The JP Clark Society, born with a dedicated mission to honor and celebrate the life and contributions of J.P. Clark, an eminent Nigerian poet, playwright, and scholar, stands poised to become an integral member of the ALS.
The society endeavors to perpetuate J.P. Clark’s literary and cultural impact through various initiatives, including fostering an appreciation for his works, promoting scholarly research, and organizing events that showcase his enduring influence in literature and academia.
By joining forces with the Alliance of Literary Societies, the JP Clark Society aims to amplify its efforts in preserving and disseminating the profound literary achievements of this iconic figure. The society’s commitment ensures that future generations will continue to draw inspiration from the indelible mark left by J.P. Clark in both Nigerian and global literary history.
