No fewer than 100 passengers transiting in a boat in Niger State to Kebbi State have escaped death in an accident.
The boat also had traders conveying grains and sugarcane to a market in Kebbi State.
The Director-General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency, NSEMA, Salihu Garba, made this known on Monday in a statement in which he said the accident occured on Monday afternoon and no deaths had been recorded as at the time of this report.
“The Niger State Emergency Management Agency NSEMA has received a report of boat mishap that occurred at Borgu Local Government Area.
“The incident happened this afternoon, Monday 15th January 2024,at about 2:05pm. The boat took off from Dugga Mashaya in Dugga ward heading towards wara market in kebbi State with passengers estimated to be around hundred in number including goods, such as grains and sugar cane.
“As of the time of writing this interim report, no clear information about death and survivors were received. Meanwhile, search and rescue operations are ongoing by the local divers,” he stated.
