In a dramatic turn of events on Wednesday in Benin, Edo state, the Nigerian Police have apprehended Julius Abure, the national chairman of the Labour Party.
The circumstances leading to his arrest are not clear at this time, however, it is widely believed to be related to the ongoing crisis within the party.
Abure has faced criticism after being accused of misappropriating Party funds totaling more than N3 Billion.
This is a sequel to vote of confidence in the party’s national chairman and other executive members of the party.
This came barely three days after another group, claiming to be chairmen of the party in the 36 states, passed a vote of no confidence on Abure, and asked him to step down with immediate effect following the an allegation by the party’s erstwhile national treasurer Oluchi Oparah that Abure misappropriating N3.5 billion.
