PERISCOPE NIGERIA recalls that recently Gombe State Executive Council approved about N43 billion for construction of governor’s residence, High Court and House of Assembly complexes.

According to a Congress resolution obtained by PERISCOPE NIGERIA in Gombe, which was signed by branch chairman Dr Suleiman Jauro and Dr M Muhammad, the branch said it wouldn’t hesitate to consider other legitimate options available to it.

Congress lamented the economic situation in the state, adding that it has overwhelming effect on the well-being of members who are being owed.

The resolution partly read, “The Congress of the Academic Staff Union of Universities Gombe State University chapter at its Congress meeting held today 28th March, 2024 deliberated extensively on issues affecting the well-being of her members.

“The Congress frowned at the failure of the university administration to address the issues affecting the well-being of its members which is currently affecting the morale of Academic staff in the university. Morale of staff has been on the decline due to failure of the university to address the welfare issues of staff amidst the socio-economic challenges in the country.”

While frowning at non-payment of accumulated Earned Academic Allowance from 2015/2016 till 2023, also the non-payment of arrears of 2020, 21 and 2022 promotion and other arrears the Congress noted it would apply other measures to get its demands should authorities not yield, adding “The Congress unanimously resolved to give the University a time frame of two weeks from today within which to address the above listed issues. If these issues remain unaddressed at the expiration of the timeframe, the Union will not hesitate to consider other legitimate options available to it to pursue its demand.”

The resolution added, “For the avoidance of doubt, below are the issues currently affecting the well-being of the Academic Staff of Gombe State University; Non-Payment of accumulated Earned Academic Allowance (E.A.A) from 2015/2016 session – date.
Non-payment of Arrears of 2020, 2021 and 2022 promotions.

“Non- Implementation of 2022 Promotion for Staff on the Professorial Cadre. Non-Implementation of 2023 Promotions for Academic Staff. Non-implementation of New salary table for Academic Staff.
Non-implementation / Non-payment of arrears of consequential adjustment in minimum wage to 30,000 effective from April, 2019. Non-Payment of Postgraduate Allowances for Supervision, Internal Examination etc.
Non-payment of Allowances to lecturers teaching General Studies courses.
Non-payment of Allowances to staff engaged in teaching part-time Programmes.”
